Tips to help your Mentoring Meetings with Students

TIPS FOR MENTORING

1. Listen intently, accurately, and empathetically (choose a quiet space to meet).

2. Be willing to talk about non ministry related things, but also be aware that you may have to redirect once the session begins.

3. Do not be afraid to ask the hard questions.

4. Be aware of how the session is affecting you and your responses.

5. Respond, do not react.

6. Ask the student to talk through their reports.

7. Ask the student about class (what they are learning, etc.).

8. Pray together, and pray for the student outside of meetings (maybe during class time).

9. Try keeping notes during your sessions and write down prayer requests. If you can, review these at a later meeting.

10. Be consistent and timely.

11. End each session with scheduling your next meeting.
